On the 5th of Sept I was lucky enough to get tickets to see Powderfinger on their Sunsets Farewell Tour from their blogger Shaun Malseed. Big ups Shaun (@followthefinger)!! These Brissy boys have been together since I was 7 so their songs are entrenched in the soundtrack of my life. I didn't realise how many songs I knew and loved until that night, which made me sad that they were splitting up but also really thankful that I could come see them one last time. On this tour they're partnering with Yalari an awesome organisation which provides scholarships for Indigenous kids from rural and remote communities to attend some of Australia's leading boarding schools. http://www.yalari.org/
We got there when The Vines were on and they were loud, really loud but in a good way. I found them more interesting to watch than actually listen to their lyrics, which I couldn't really understand. They were very still, staying in their own defined spaces never really interacting with each other and the crowd which I found very boring to be honest that is until Craig Nicholls the lead singer started swinging his guitar around and smashing it into everything, which I thought was cool until I read up on them and he seems to do that ALOT..... So not so original and passion driven as it seemed. Apart from all of that I thought they were good, loud howling songs, lots of guitar, big smashing finish, what more could you ask for?
Craig teaching his guitar a lesson....
So did I mention it was raining and it had been all day but this didn't stop Brisbane from showing up and partying with Powderfinger. It was great to look at the crowd and see a sea of multicoloured ponchos and if anything it added to the atmosphere. We were already wet so you might as well have fun with it and jump around to keep warm.
From Love your way, Burn your name to Like a dog. They were on from the start. With the crowd favourites My happiness, Passenger and ending on These days. It was a night to remember.
Thanks guys for the memories....
